The Practicalities of Trust – Improving the Ethical Side of your Decision Making
We are all good people, but when it comes to ethics and ‘doing the right thing’, do we always make good decisions? What does ‘a good decision’ look like from an ethical perspective, and how do we translate that into the everyday world of insurance?
I’ll be exploring the ethical side of decision making, using typical insurance activities as a backdrop, and looking at practical steps we can all take to be that bit better at it next time round. And as we all work in teams and firms, I’ll go on to look at the role that ethics plays in leadership and at how to lift the ethical performance of the people we lead.
Learning Objectives
-
explain why insurance professionals need to do more than just comply with laws and regulations;
-
recall practical skills that can be used to enhance the ethics of the decisions we take;
-
identify occasions when a colleague is in danger of making an unethical decision;
-
describe five components of leadership on ethics.
