Webinar: A plain English overview of construction (contractors) insurance

  • Wed 03 Aug 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

From small builder to plumbers through to large building firms there are an increasing number of contractors needing insurance often due to the fact that building firms now take on contractors rather than employees. These contractors need professional guidance on their insurance needs and this presentation will outline the main factors to be taken into account. As an example, would a small building firm really understand the difference between labour-only and Bona-fide sub-contractors, if they do not have a broker they are in big trouble as the Insurance Act 2015 says they must make a fair presentation of risk, without help how do they do this? The presentation, delivered by Alan Chandler one of the most popular insurance presenters in the UK, will look at the main insurance needs of a contractor. The webinar will include looking at contract works cover, understanding contractor liability cover including non-negligence cover, understanding the Business Interruption cover including understanding how to add fines and damages to the contractors’ policy and why current limits of indemnity are often not sufficient. The contractors sector will suffer badly from the hardening market and this presentation will look at how you can best get your clients’ needs correctly arranged.

Webinar: Dealing correctly with Vulnerable Customers

  • Fri 15 Jul 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

The FCA have found following a thematic review that vulnerable customers are often not treated fairly. In fact many Insurers pricing models have taken significant advantage of these customers, often the more vulnerable the customer the more the insurer has loaded rates at renewal. Some of the UK's largest institutions have been guilty of proactively targeting these individuals and the regulator has had enough of Insurers and brokers balancing their books on the most vulnerable in our society. Alan Chandler, Chartered Insurer, who is widely regarded as one of the top insurance trainers in the UK will look at how firms have been treating customers unfairly including some disturbing case studies. The presentation will include how the FCA define vulnerable customer, the measures all firms are expected to put in place and how the requirements on all firms are changing to make sure the most vulnerable are protected going forward. This continues to be a hot topic for the regulator and failure to comply leaves firms open to disciplinary measures from the regulator.

There is a fine balance to be struck. This thought-provoking webinar will examine both sides of the debate and suggest a way forward to ensure the best possible outcome for the profession and for our clients.

Webinar: How contract conditions can change the liability of an insured and why brokers must advise clients on this.

  • Fri 27 May 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

Many policyholders sign contracts without realising they are potentially exposing themselves to liabilities that are not covered by their insurances. Often these contracts are signed in order to either win business or obtain key supplies, either way they are extending their liability beyond the potential protection provided by the liability insurer. Alan Chandler, one of the most popular presenters in the UK, will explore what Public and Products liability policies normally cover and what the position is at law when the policyholder extends their liability beyond this by signing certain contracts. The webinar will include exploring the consequences of the Insurance Act 2015 for failing to make a fair presentation of risk with regards to contract conditions, and how failure to guide policyholders around this matter could lead to a claim being turned down and all cover cancelled.

Webinar - The Rise of Errors and Omission Claims Against Brokers and why Broker PI premiums are soaring

  • Fri 06 May 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

Broker Professional Indemnity premiums are in many cases doubling which reflect the fact that Pi underwriters believe the possibility of claims against brokers has never been higher. This presentation will explore why the number of errors and omission claims against brokers are on the increase and how these can potentially be mitigated. Various new pieces of legislation including the brokers' duty under the Insurance Act 2015, GDPR and the Insurance Distribution Directive are making brokers more vulnerable than ever, which coupled with increased litigation in society, increased client expectations and ever higher regulatory demands mean that brokers cannot continue to do what they have always done, far more proactivity is required. Alan Chandler who is widely regarded as one of the leading trainers and presenters within the UK will provide a number of examples of how the tide of litigation is turning against insurance brokers and what they need to do to mitigate their E&O risks.

Webinar on How to correctly advise your clients on setting correct indemnity periods under Business Interruption insurance policies.

  • Wed 27 Apr 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

Brokers increasingly face PI claims for failing to advise clients correctly on setting appropriate Business Interruption indemnity periods. Recently a broker was successfully sued for failing to give any guidance around indemnity periods to a manufacturer who had a twelve-month indemnity period. Nothing was ever recorded by the broker about the fact that twelve months was almost certainly inadequate, in fact it was the Loss adjuster after the fire took place that educated the client on setting correct indemnity periods, unfortunately too late for all concerned. This webinar looks to make sure this does not happen to you or your staff. This one-hour webinar provided by Alan Chandler, one of the most popular presenters in the UK, will examine all the different factors a client needs to take into account when setting an indemnity period. The presentation will include guiding clients who are on a Gross Profit Bi basis, a Gross Revenue or Fees basis and will also include how an Increased Cost of working only policy should deal with prospective losses over 12 months.
