Webinar on How to correctly advise your clients on setting correct indemnity periods under Business Interruption insurance policies.

  • Wed 27 Apr 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

Brokers increasingly face PI claims for failing to advise clients correctly on setting appropriate Business Interruption indemnity periods. Recently a broker was successfully sued for failing to give any guidance around indemnity periods to a manufacturer who had a twelve-month indemnity period. Nothing was ever recorded by the broker about the fact that twelve months was almost certainly inadequate, in fact it was the Loss adjuster after the fire took place that educated the client on setting correct indemnity periods, unfortunately too late for all concerned. This webinar looks to make sure this does not happen to you or your staff. This one-hour webinar provided by Alan Chandler, one of the most popular presenters in the UK, will examine all the different factors a client needs to take into account when setting an indemnity period. The presentation will include guiding clients who are on a Gross Profit Bi basis, a Gross Revenue or Fees basis and will also include how an Increased Cost of working only policy should deal with prospective losses over 12 months.

New CPD Webinar - The Highway Code Changes and their Implications for Insurance

  • Tue 15 Mar 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm
    • Bernard Thornton FCII

On 29 January 2022 some significant alterations were made to the Highway Code, known and trusted for many decades as the ‘Road Users’ Bible’. This new edition changes many common perceptions as to the rules and etiquette of the road, for instance, priorities at junctions, awareness, spacing and the creation of a ‘hierarchy’ of road users. Not only are these amendments of fundamental importance to any road user, they will undoubtedly have a bearing on many RTA liability decisions affecting everyone from pedestrians to HGV drivers. One aspect of concern over the new rules is a perceived lack of publicity and hence a possible knowledge gap on the part of road users. This webinar goes into detail on the provisions of the new Code and how they can be communicated to clients. It also looks at how they are likely to affect different classes of Motor insurance. The webinar will be of value to everyone using a public road. Specifically it will be of value to insurance personnel dealing with Motor underwriting, claims or client facing in any way.

WEBINAR: FCA Consumer Duty – what’s that all about?

  • Mon 07 Mar 10:00 am – 11:00 am
    • Branko Bjelobaba FCII

The FCA want to see a higher level of consumer protection in retail financial markets, where firms compete vigorously in the interests of consumers and they wish to drive a healthy and successful financial services system in which firms can thrive and consumers can make informed choices about financial products and services. They consider that firms are not consistently and sufficiently prioritising good consumer outcomes and this causes consumer harm and erodes consumer trust. They set out high-level proposals in their first consultation and have now revised those in light of feedback and are setting out their proposals in more detail with final rules due to be published by 31 July 2022. The new Consumer Duty aims to bring about a fairer, more consumer-focused and level playing field in which:- • firms are consistently placing consumers’ interests at the centre of their businesses and extending their focus beyond ensuring narrow compliance with specific rules, to focus on delivering good outcomes for consumers  • competition is effective in driving market-wide benefits, with firms competing to attract and retain customers based on high standards and innovate in pursuit of good consumer outcomes, and  • consumers get products and services which are fit for purpose, provide fair value, that they understand how to use and are supported in doing so

Webinar: Property insurance. understanding why there will be 15% + rate increases in 2022

  • Fri 18 Feb 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
    • Alan Chandler ACII

A combination of higher materials and labour costs will mean insurers are likely to need 9.6% increases just to cover rebuild cost inflation in the UK. However, given most need additional rate strength of around 6% to balance their loss-making property books, this will mean policyholders looking at rate increases of around 15% in 2022 on top of the 2021 increases! Imports of sawn wood increased by 73% during 2021, steel sections by 60%, the current inflation rate for rebuilding materials is 20.3% which is a record 40 year high. Policyholders MUST understand why this is happening and whether it will continue. This presentation will provide the answers. Given the rebuild cost inflation is so high, the already significant worry of property under insurance in the UK is going to get worse. It is estimated that over 80% of policies have incorrect property sums insured and that is before the 2022 rebuild cost increases. This webinar looks at the major issue of under insurance in the UK property insurance market, why it is getting worse and how to help your clients avoid the under-insurance trap. The presentation, delivered by Alan Chandler one of the UK's most popular insurance presenters, is a must for brokers, underwriters and claims staff alike.

    • Branko Bjelobaba FCII

In the FCA’s Dear CEO letter of 4 September 2020 they set out a new supervision strategy for GI brokers as they believe customers are buying unsuitable or poor value products and that insufficient or unclear information is being provided at point of sale and inappropriate sales tactics are the biggest contributors of customer harm. Whilst the letter covers everything below the one hour event will focus on the following:- 1. Firms’ response to covid; 2. Governance and oversight; 3. Bedding in of SMCR to incl Conduct Rules for all staff; 4. Incentive arrangements incl remuneration for firm and staff; 5. Business models incl distribution chains, product oversight and design, sales and renewals, conflicts of interest and ARs; 6. Uncertainty brought about by the BI court case and handling of claims, complaints and ongoing communications; With new requirements around vulnerable customers, pricing and consumer duty it is clear that a lot more work is to come for brokers and insurers alike.
