The physical and sexual abuse of vulnerable persons is certainly not a new phenomenon. However, it is probably true to say that it is only more recently that society has fully recognised its existence and taken measures in the form of legislation, developing case law and best practice procedures to safeguard those who are at risk and indeed those who have been victims of abuse. In this seminar we will consider this complex area in the context of the insurance provision for organisations such as charities and community organisations that work with vulnerable persons. We will explore some of the key issues including an overview of recent developments in case law, policy coverage and the challenges faced by insurers.
