President's Message

Welcome to The Insurance Institute of Sheffield. It’s a great privilege to take on the presidency of the Sheffield Institute. Having a presence on the Council requires support from employers, colleagues, friends, family, and most importantly the other volunteers that make up our Institute. I would not be able to take on the President’s position without the guidance and coaching that others have given me in the past, so thank you to those people, as well as all Council members for the time and effort they put in to running our Institute. This year I intend on concentrating efforts on exploring how Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) can enhance our attractiveness as an industry. 30% of our workforce is looking to exit the industry in next 10 years, and by exploring DEI I aim to challenge some of the stereotypes we have as an industry, and make General and Finance Services a choice of career, rather than one many of us (including myself) ‘fell into’.

Anyone wanting to join us for any event in 2025/26 will be very welcome, whether it is a social event, a CPD lecture, our annual dinner or, if you would like to get involved with council, our next committee meeting. I’m really looking forward to representing and meeting our members over the year.

In Person CPD Event: Networking - A Professional Approach

Networking has massive benefits to individuals and organisations on multiple levels, and yet many neglect it completely, go through the motions or treat it solely as an opportunity to get out of the office and blow off some steam. This session, presented by Nick Thomas, emphasises a professional and structured approach to networking; exploring overall networking strategy, how to optimise results from specific events, and pays particular attention to networking for sales. It gives delegates the tools and insight to raise their networking game and reap the rewards for themselves and their employers.

Visit to Lloyds and the Insurance Museum - In Partnership with Brown & Brown UK

In partnership with Brown & Brown UK we are excited to offer members the opportunity to travel to London and have a tour of the historic Lloyds of London building and to visit the Museum of Insurance. The subsidised ticket price includes return train travel from Sheffield station to London St Pancras, an hour tour of the Lloyds building, a buffet lunch, a visit to the Insurance Museum and networking opportunities.
