Overview

In this lecture, Steve will run through the history of the Motor Insurers’ Bureau since its formation in 1946 right through to the present day with a focus on how we are delivering on our main aims:

  • To give people the means to get their lives back on track after a motor accident and spearhead innovation to free our roads of uninsured and “hit and run” drivers;
  • To be entrusted to manage services which are secure, easy to access and benefit society.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this lecture, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the history and function of the MIB;
  • Appreciate how the MIB is tackling the problem of uninsured and “hit and run” driving;
  • Identify the difference between Contract, Road Traffic Act and Article 75 obligations;
  • Understand how the MIB assists victims of uninsured and 'hit and run' drivers;
  • Appreciate the current / future challenges faced by the MIB.

About the speaker

Steve Chilvers is the Major Loss Manager at the MIB. Steve is a Chartered Insurer with 25 years cross industry experience of managing Large and Catastrophic personal injury teams.
