Summer Guided Walk - Rottingdean - Kipling and the Smugglers
The Insurance Institute of Sussex invites all members and their guests to join us on a guided walk around the ancient village of Rottingdean on Tuesday 31 July 2018, meeting at 6.15pm for a prompt 6.30pm start.
Meeting at the White Horse Hotel, this circular 90 minute walk is once again provided for us by Nick Richmond and will explore some of Rottingdean's fascinating history of smugglers, authors and beautiful gardens.
During the walk, you will find out how Rottingdean was the place to be for smuggling gangs in the 19th century and hear the stories of how the smugglers fooled the coastguards.
We will also visit the 11th century church of St Margaret and see its amazing stained glass windows and follow in Kipling's footsteps on a trip around the historic gardens attached to where he and his family lived.
