The next joint Learning and Development (CPD) Conference, being hosted by the Insurance Institutes of Sussex and North Downs, takes place at Lingfield Park Resort on Thursday 17 October 2019.

During the day, we are featuring a range of topical subjects which include:

The price for this event is just £40 for CII/PFS members, £50 for non-members and £250 per table of 8 people.

All prices include a buffet lunch and other light refreshments.

About our Speakers

Tom Chamberlain, Underwriting Manager Aerospace & General Aviation & Tony Avery, Senior Underwriter General Aviation
Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty
Tom Chamberlain has over 18 years’ experience in the industry, working in various positions across large, global insurance companies. Tom started his insurance career in Actuarial and has since held a number of strategic roles across the business. He is currently the Head of General Aviation and Aerospace for Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty for the London Region. Tom has had a fascination with Aviation for as long as he can remember and holds a Private Pilot’s Licence, flying out of Fairoaks Aerodrome, and has recently also started flying FPV drones.

Tony Avery has over 13 years’ experience in the Aviation industry, working his way up from an operational role to his current position as Senior Aviation Underwriter. Tony has a detailed knowledge of the drone industry having designed the insurance offering underwritten by Allianz Global Corporate and Specialty in the UK and is the underwriting expert for the Region. Tony has a particular passion for General Aviation and also owns and operates a Phantom II drone.

Malcolm Hyde BSc (Hons) Dip (Fr) FCII FCILA FUEDI-ELAE
Executive Director, The Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters
Malcolm is a Fellow of both the CII and CILA. He is a former President of the European Federation of Loss Adjusters and in his spare time was a Police Officer for 6 years. Starting his career in North London with Commercial Union in the underwriting departments, he learnt after a two week spell in Claims that the Claims world was his world. Deciding that Loss Adjusting was a natural progression he was delighted to obtain a role with Ellis & Buckle (now Sedgwick). Having a keen interest in project work and development, he secured a role in the Ellis & Buckle technology department which eventually led to a two year role in Paris with an Australian firm, HUON.

On his return to the UK Malcolm headed back to Loss Adjusting and a role with Ashworth Mairs Group led him to the technical arena, where he authored the Loss Adjusting text book “Property Insurance Law & Claims”. This text book is sold around the world. Following this Malcolm secured the role as Executive Director of the CILA, which quenches his thirst to help others reach their full potential whilst employing his technical knowledge.

Matt Churchill, Head of Futures, Hiscox UK
Matt joined the UK retail division of Hiscox in 2011 and managed a large customer service initiative which included structural changes and the identification, improvement and measurement of behaviours that focussed on customer service. In 2013 he transferred to the London Market division where he developed the e-commerce strategy for both the London and Guernsey businesses. In 2016 he moved to head up a new division within Hiscox UK, looking at innovation and disruptive trends in the insurance and fintech sector. Matt works with start ups, VCs and entrepreneurs; finding ways to trial new ideas and innovations in a quick, cost effective way.

Adam Marks, Dip CII - Development Underwriter – Cyber, Hiscox UK
Adam Marks is a Cyber Underwriter at Hiscox UK and acts as the National Cyber Expert underwriting complex cases and assisting colleagues in writing cyber business for their regions. Prior to joining Hiscox UK in August 2018, Adam worked at a global broking firm for 6 years managing cyber insurance programmes for clients of varying sizes from SME to large corporate.

Paul Redington BA(Hons) ACII Chartered Insurer - Regional Major Loss Property Claims Manager, Zurich
Starting his insurance career as a graduate trainee, Paul has been handling customers’ losses for over 28 years. His claims experience at some of the UK’s leading Insurers has also included managing large Motor, Casualty and Professional Indemnity exposures.

Paul joined Zurich’s Property Major Loss Team from AIG in 2010. His current “hands on” role involves the rapid response to large property claims - including serious fires, floods and explosions. This includes attending site, and directly helping customers at their time of need.

Paul previously worked at Aviva where he managed their biggest ever UK property claim, and fronted their large loss response to the Carlisle floods of 2005 which devastated almost 3,000 homes and businesses.

Since joining Zurich, Paul has overseen a variety of high profile losses both here and abroad, with one being nominated for “Major Loss of the Year” at the British Insurance Awards in 2015. Currently Deputy Chairman of Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters’ Property Special Interest Group, Paul also contributes to the Association of British Insurers (ABI) Fire & Escape of Water Working Group, and the ABI Riots Working Group. Paul is also on the steering group of the DEFRA backed Flood Resilience Roundtable.

A passionate believer that Zurich can be a voice for its customers, he also assists with political lobbying on some of the big issues currently facing Zurich UK’s clients. These include the challenges around metal theft, commercial squatting and fly-tipping. He also contributes to the company’s output on various risk topics, looking to share insight and loss management advice.

In late 2018 Paul was the grateful recipient of a global “Customer Hero” prize - awarded by Zurich’s worldwide Chief Exec Mario Greco at a Group leadership event in Venice.

Morten Pahle, Managing Director, Aesir Space
Born in Norway, Morten spent the formative years of his life in Rotterdam and subsequently studied in the UK. This ultimately gave him a B.Eng. With Honours in Aeronautical Engineering and an M.Sc. in Statistics and Reliability from the City University in London.

Morten started his career in the space industry more than 20 years ago as a Reliability and Safety Engineer on a series of meteorological satellites – all of which are still in orbit. His final role in industry was Group Risk and Insurance Manager at Astrium Satellites (now Airbus D&S) He has held various underwriting roles covering Space, Aviation and Property. In 2012 he founded ViVet, which became one of the leading London Space insurers.

At the end of 2018 he joined Volante Global, establishing Aesir Space with the aim of developing a new set of insurance products for the nascent New Space community.

In his spare time Morten flies light aircraft - sometimes upside down - and likes the challenge of cryptic crosswords. He is passionate about aerospace technology and enjoys what he does.
