Art for Fun
Are you a budding Picasso or Rembrandt, or do you struggle to identify one end of a paint brush from the other?
Whatever your artistic skill, join us for an evening of fun and creativity as professional illustrator Michelle Shore helps members and their families/friends create a work of art in the comfort of their own homes.
The focus for the evening will be on "trees" and you can choose whether to use your paintbrush and acrylic paints, make a mixed media collage, or use a mixture of both.
Michelle will provide examples of possible subjects (or you can work from a picture or photo that you already have). She will demonstrate different techniques and guide you step by step through creating your artwork in a supportive and inspiring way. This will help ensure that you end up with a unique piece of original art you will be proud of by the end of the evening.
Online Booking
This event will be run over Zoom and costs just £5 per Zoom login (plus any art materials that you may need to buy). To reserve your place, please click on the Book Now button below.
It doesn't matter if you are an absolute beginner, haven't made any art since your schooldays, or if you have some experience. Michelle's main emphasis when teaching is on having fun, with the aim of bringing out the best in each person.
You will have plenty of opportunity to interact with one another during the evening and you are encouraged to have your family members (aged 10 or above) create along with you.
Recommended Equipment
For those wishing to use acrylic paints during the evening, the following materials are recommended:
-
an artist's canvas - either 12x16 inches (30x40cm) or 16x20 inches (40x50cm)
-
acrylic paints - primary colours (red, yellow and blue) plus black and white
-
3 paint brushes (small, medium and large)
-
a palette (an old or paper plate is ideal for this)
-
kitchen towel (just in case of mishaps etc!)
-
a water container (such as an old jar or cup)
-
an HB or 2B pencil (optional)
The cost of the above materials will vary depending on where you buy them, but the canvas, paints and brushes are available from The Works at a cost of around £12 excluding p&p.
Alternatively, if you would like to make a mixed media collage, you will need:
-
an artist's canvas - either 12x16 inches (30x40cm) or 16x20 inches (40x50cm)
-
scissors
-
old magazines/newspapers
-
some acrylic paints (optional if you want to use paint as well as paper - primary colours and/or white will work best)
-
glue (if not using acrylic paint)
About our Instructor
Michelle is based in the Peak District and has been a professional illustrator/artist since 2015. She has a BA (Hons) degree in Illustration & Animation and regularly delivers workshops/one-to-one sessions to adults and young people in both drawing and painting.
Michelle believes that everyone is creative and that art gives us a means of tapping into our inner creative selves, so was a natural choice when we decided that we wanted to offer this activity to our members.
Below are some examples of Michelle's recent work to give you some ideas ahead of the evening!
