Webinar: The Highway Code Changes 2022 And Their Implications For Motor Insurance

  • Tue 15 Mar 10:00 am – 11:00 am
  • Online
    • Bernard Thornton FCII

On 29 January 2022 some significant alterations were made to the Highway Code, known and trusted for many decades as the ‘Road Users’ Bible’. This new edition changes many common perceptions as to the rules and etiquette of the road, for instance, priorities at junctions, awareness, spacing and the creation of a ‘hierarchy’ of road users. Not only are these amendments of fundamental importance to any road user, they will undoubtedly have a bearing on many RTA liability decisions affecting everyone from pedestrians to HGV drivers. One aspect of concern over the new rules is a perceived lack of publicity and hence a possible knowledge gap on the part of road users. This webinar goes into detail on the provisions of the new Code and how they can be communicated to clients. It also looks at how they are likely to affect different classes of Motor insurance. The webinar will be of value to everyone using a public road. Specifically it will be of value to insurance personnel dealing with Motor underwriting, claims or client facing in any way.

Webinar: The Uber Test Case and the Ride Ahead for the Insurance Industry

  • Wed 25 Aug 9:30 am – 10:30 am
  • Online
    • Jeff Heasman, Insurance Upskill

On 19 February 2021, the Supreme Court delivered its judgment in the Uber test case. The decision will have major ramifications for the so-called “gig economy”, and in turn, future underwriting considerations. The Supreme Court judgment provides guidance on when the law now considers someone to be a “worker” and when someone is deemed to be “working”. Furthermore, when combined with an analysis of the Supreme Court judgments in April 2020 relating to an employer´s vicarious liability for their employees, the ramifications are potentially massive. The potential reach of the principles involved in the case are vast and will almost certainly impact the way many of us work now and in the future. This webinar will analyse the Uber test case and its implications for future underwriting considerations.

  • Webinar
    • Alan Chandler

From small builder to plumbers through to large building firms there are an increasing number of contractors needing insurance often due to the fact that building firms now take on contractors rather than employees. These contractors need professional guidance on their insurance needs and this presentation will outline the main factors to be taken into account. As an example would a small building firm really understand the difference between labour-only and Bona-fide sub-contractors, if they do not have a broker they are in big trouble as the Insurance Act 2015 says they must make a fair presentation of risk, without help how do they do this? The presentation, delivered by Alan Chandler one of the most popular insurance presenters in the UK, will look at the main insurance needs of a contractor. The webinar will include looking at contract works cover, understanding contractor liability cover including non-negligence cover, understanding the Business Interruption cover including understanding how to add fines and damages to the contractors’ policy and why current limits of indemnity are often not sufficient. The contractors sector will suffer badly from the hardening market and this presentation will look at how you can best get your clients’ needs correctly arranged
