66th Annual Dinner 2016
Thinking back to the first annual dinner, the world was certainly a very different place. Much has changed since 1951 but like the Insurance Institute of York, some of the creations of that year are still around today. Did you know 1951 saw the introduction of the zebra crossing into law? Originally the road marking strips were blue and yellow and despite a white paint face-lift they continue to provide pedestrians with a safer way to cross the road. In the same year the character Dennis the Menace first appeared in the Beano Comic and has been causing havoc ever since!
Thankfully, there have been countless diligent members of the Insurance Institute working in a profession that is no stranger to the world’s accidents and incidents and it is with this backdrop in mind in the busy worlds of insurance and financial services, that we feel it is important to take time to celebrate the professional successes of our members in the past year. That’s exactly what we did at the 66th Annual dinner at the Royal York Hotel. Attendees enjoyed the fantastically entertaining Geoff Miller OBE as our guest speaker; he even had non-cricket fans laughing at his stories.
In addition to the dinner itself, there were valuable networking opportunities as attendees spoke with other professionals in insurance and financial services, as well as guests from local accountancy and solicitor firms. There were also unsubstantiated reports that the writer of this article may have performed some dance moves and sung along with the music of jazz singer Andy Ellison who performed throughout the evening! The evening was a great success and raised money for the CII’s chosen charity, The Insurance Charities.
You can see some pictures of the evening here.
We are appreciative of our sponsors, Crombie Wilkinson Solicitors, Pen Life Associates Chartered Financial Planners and SimplyBiz for their generous support.
We are planning events that will take place in the coming year so do look out of them and come and join us!
