North East Insurance Institutes Webinar: Economic Outlook – storm clouds are gathering
The Insurance Institutes of the North East are delighted to welcome back Professor Trevor Williams for a fourth installment of his fascinating economic series events.
The UK economy is now facing 4 shocks: one stems from the after effects of the pandemic, another from the war in Ukraine, a third from the lingering policy effects of action to tackle the global financial crisis and the fourth is from Brexit.
While the extent of consumer inflation is a direct consequence of the supply side shock from Covid-19, and is being exacerbated by the war, QE should have been halted a few years ago. As a result of all this and an aging population, the UK is facing a cost of living crisis. How do we navigate the coming storms?
Trevor has been the Chief Economist at Lloyds Bank - Commercial Banking for over 15 years; he is a visiting Professor at Derby University, Chairman of the Institute of Economic Affairs Shadow Monetary Policy Committee and a well-known author, lecturer and consultant.
Learning objectives:
At the end of this event delegates will be able to identify:
• an analysis of the uncertainty the UK faces as it explores opportunities outside the EU
• how to consider ways to navigate the cost of living crisis
• how economic data can be used by professionals in a meaningful way to better educate their clients
