“When I was born, the world was a far simpler place. It was all just cops and robbers.” – L4yer Cake

In a world where it is far easier to convince somebody to give their money to a criminal, rather than robbing a bank, scams and financial crime are increasing at an exponential rate, aided by the rise in the use of digital technologies.

In 2021 criminals managed to steal over £1.3 billion from individuals and businesses across the UK.

As Financial Professionals we are fighting back. In 2021 the industry prevented £1.4 billion of fraud, but as Fraudsters and Scammers adapt to become even more sophisticated it is clear that as businesses we are only as strong as our weakest link, and as Financial Professionals we are in a great place to continue to educate our clients about steps they can take to keep their money safe.

In this session, Financial Planner & PFS Education Outreach Ambassador Daniel Williams will provide an insight into the latest Fraud Trends, show you the techniques used by scammers and show you how to develop a scam-busting culture in your business, how to increase your client's scam awareness and help you to build a framework in case it all goes wrong.

Learning Objectives:

  1. To understand current trends in Fraud and current techniques used by scammers.
  2. To be able to identify threats to your business and clients.
  3. To understand how important business culture is in Fraud prevention and how to build that culture.
  4. To have the tools to be able to build a framework in case it all goes wrong.
