Friends Meeting House
Wednesday, 28 September 2016
12:00 pm (UK time)

Speaker : Neil Atkinson, CNA Hardy

Marine insurance is the oldest form of insurance and despite the new Insurance Act doing away with the Marine Insurance Act, marine still plays a pivotal role in today’s insurance market place. This lecture will take a look at the emerging trends affecting the marine market today.

The session will cover the following areas:
Cyber – What impact are cyber attacks having on the cargo and freight industry and what cover is provided under a standard cargo wording.

SOLAS VGM – Update on the implementation of VGM and the impact on your clients and marine insurance.

Clandestine Entry – An ongoing problem.

Flood – Are marine stock throughput insurers a soft touch when it comes to flood cover?

Relying on the carrier – The problems with ‘All Risks’/’Full Responsibility’ cover.

Learning objectives:
By the end of this session, delegates will be able to identify;

  • The current Cyber exclusion on the Institute Cargo Clauses and how this affects coverage
  • VGM; how this affects shippers and what the impact has been on the shipping industry
  • Flood and clandestine entry for marine policies – two topical issues for marine insurers
  • The difference between ‘all risks’ and ‘full responsibility’ and the perils of relying on the carrier is ‘insuring’ the cargo
